If you want to record, just start recording, and it will record the dry signal onto that track. If everything is setup properly, as you play guitar, the signal will go into the UM2, into Reaper, get grabbed by the armed track, processed through Toneforge, and go out your speakers via the RCA output on your UM2. To turn on input monitoring, right click on the red button that arms the track, and select "Monitor Input." This means that you'll be able to hear the sound (with all FX) as you're playing. Now, turn on "input monitoring" for that track. Load up your Toneforge effect on the same track. Make sure that the track in Reaper is armed to record the same input as the one on the UM2 that your guitar is plugged into. So, you'll want to start by turning your direct monitor off.
The direct monitor should ALWAYS be giving you the clean sound, since it basically takes your input (guitar) and routes it directly to the output without any processing. If I'm understanding the situation properly, this might help. I would appreciate any feedback on the issue - most of the online answers are either irrelevant or just don't work. None of the above is the result when Guitar Rig is loaded instead. When I proceed and record, it shows like there is input frequency, playing the recording results in no sound. Then, after I load Misha's plugin, the following happens: My direct monitor keeps sounding like there is no effect (clean), while there is volume from the input indicator.
Starting a new project and inserting a new track, I get an output from speakers A, as a direct monitor from U-Phoria, at which point I can record, but obviously without any effects. The most stubborn one being that I do not have any sound output. My laptop is connected via USB cable into an external sound card (U-Phoria UM2 which is then connected via RCA cable into speakers - which I will call speakers A - different than my laptop's - which I will call speakers B). I am quite new to the whole "recording from my bedroom" scene so recently I created my setup.
